His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, is the leader of Tibetan Buddhism and a spiritual leader revered worldwide. His travels in the cause of peace and a free Tibet have made him an international celebrity. Awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1989 for his non-violent struggle for the liberation of Tibet, His Holiness is universally respected as a spokesman for the compassionate and non-violent resolution of human conflict.
He has met with Presidents, Prime Ministers and Crowned Rulers of major nations. He has held dialogues with the heads of different religions and many well-known scientists. In recent years, a number of western universities and institutions have conferred Peace Awards and honorary Doctorate Degrees upon His Holiness in recognition of his scholarship and distinguished writings on Buddhist philosophy. In May 2012, His Holiness was awarded the distinguished Templeton Prize for His commitment to interfaith relations.
His Holiness has travelled extensively, speaking on subjects including universal responsibility, happiness, compassion and kindness and has authored more than seventy books. His Holiness describes himself as “a simple Buddhist monk”.
