Richard M. Ryan is a clinical psychologist and a Professor at the Institute for Positive Psychology and Education of Australian Catholic University, and at the University of Rochester, New York. He is co-developer of Self-Determination Theory, a leading theory of motivation, personality development, and well-being. With over 400 papers and books, Ryan has lectured in more than 90 universities and consulted with organizations, schools, and health-care initiatives worldwide, and is among the most cited researchers in the social sciences today.
