Dr Julie Goyder
Dr Julie Goyder's PhD thesis was about Alzheimer's disease and storytelling. After graduating, she rewrote this as the book, "We'll be married in Fremantle" which was published in 2001. Little did she know then that, years later, her husband, Anthony, would succumb to Parkinson's disease dementia. Her 20-year career as a university lecturer was cut short by her need to care for Anthony. Julie now volunteers for Alzheimer's Australia, the Red Cross and Bethanie, facilitating carer support meetings that focus on sharing stories and experiences with those who care for loved ones with dementia.
